CPSTF Announces New Chair and Vice-Chair

Dr. Alison Evans Cuellar and Dr. Ned Calonge.During its October 2019 meeting, held in Atlanta, Georgia, the Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) publicly announced the appointments of Bruce Nedrow (Ned) Calonge, MD, MPH as chair and Alison Evans Cuellar, PhD as vice-chair.

Dr. Calonge was appointed to the CPSTF in 2006 and became the vice-chair in January 2018. He possesses both clinical and public health expertise and has led similar national panels including the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (2004–2011) and CDC’s Evaluating Genomic Applications in Practice and Prevention Working Group (2010–2017). Dr. Calonge is the president and CEO of The Colorado Trust, a private grant-making foundation dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of the people of Colorado. He is also an associate professor of Family Medicine at the Colorado School of Medicine, University of Colorado, Denver, and an associate professor of Epidemiology at the Colorado School of Public Health.

Dr. Cuellar was appointed to the CPSTF in 2018. She is a full professor in health administration and policy at George Mason University and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Dr. Cuellar recently served on the National Academy of Medicine’s Study Committee on Community Based Solutions to Promote Health Equity in the United States. Her expertise in payer innovations, associated data, and methods in public health policy and behavioral health provide a unique viewpoint to the work done by the CPSTF.
